DOST Scholarship
Organized by the Department of Science and Technology, Science Education Institute, the DOST scholarships aim at providing undergraduate and college students an opportunity to further their studies in the Philippines. DOST-SEI offers S&T Undergraduate Scholarships and Junior Level Science Scholarships. Both scholarships will be discussed as this article progresses.
S&T Scholarship
The S&T Undergraduate Scholarships Program is for brilliant Filipino students who are pursuing careers in science and technology. It aims at producing competent S&T human resources that can promote the country’s progress. The S&T Scholarship is of two types: Merit and RA 7687. The DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program is granted to students with skills in science and mathematics who are interested in pursuing careers in science and technology.
The Republic Act No. 7687 is also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994”. It is the second type of S&T Scholarship. It is awarded to qualified students from low-income families who are pursuing careers in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.

S&T Undergraduate Scholarships Privileges
For a regular academic year, an S&T Undergraduate Scholarships awardee gets:
- P40,000 a year for tuition and other school fees. P1,500 for summer allowance (if required in the curriculum).
- P10,000 a year for book allowance. P500 for summer allowance (if required in the curriculum).
- P70,000 a year for monthly living allowance. P7,000 per month for two months as summer allowance (if required in the curriculum).
- P1,000 (1st semester of 1st year only) for a clothing allowance.
- 1 economy-class roundtrip fare as transportation allowance (for those studying outside the province).
- Premium Group Health and Accident Insurance.
- P10,000 as thesis allowance.
- P1,000 as graduation allowance.
DOST Scholarship Requirements
To be an S&T undergraduate scholarship applicant, there are certain criteria you must meet. You must be:
- A natural-born Filipino citizen.
- A poor, talented and deserving student who belongs to a family whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indicators (for Merit scholarships only).
- A member of the STEM strand senior high school graduating class or the top five percent (5%) of the non-STEM strand senior high school graduating class.
- A resident of the municipality as proven by the barangay for at least four (4) years (for RA 7687 scholarship only).
- Of good moral character and in good health.
- You must not have any post-secondary or undergraduate units.
- Have not taken any prior DOST-SEI examination or have taken the DOST-SEI Undergraduate Examination but did not qualify for the scholarship or did not get the award.

Junior Level Science Scholarships
The Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) Program funds the studies of qualified students in their 3rd year of college. It is for students who are pursuing degree programs in the fields of science and technology. It is a DOST scholarship for college students. The Junior Level Science Scholarships are of three types: the Merit, RA 7687, and RA 10612. The DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program is granted to students with skills in science and mathematics who are interested in pursuing careers in science and technology.
The Republic Act No. 7687 is also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994”. It is the second type of Junior Level Science Scholarship. It is awarded to qualified students from low-income families who are pursuing careers in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching. The RA focuses on improving the science and technology resources in the country to produce better science and mathematics teachers.
Junior Level Science Scholarships Privileges
For a regular academic year, an S&T Undergraduate Scholarships awardee gets:
- P40,000 a year for tuition and other school fees. P10,000 for summer allowance (if required in the curriculum).
- P10,000 a year for learning materials and/or connectivity allowance. P2,000 for summer allowance (if required in the curriculum).
- P7,000 a month for monthly living allowance. P7,000 per month for two months as summer allowance (if required in the curriculum).
- 1 economy-class roundtrip fare as transportation allowance (for those studying outside the province).
- Premium Group Health and Accident Insurance.
- P10,000 as thesis allowance.
- P1,000 as graduation allowance.
Junior Level Science Scholarships Eligibility Requirements
To be considered an eligible applicant for the Junior Level Science Scholarships, you must be:
- A natural-born Filipino citizen.
- A poor, talented and deserving student who belongs to a family whose socio-economic status does not exceed the set values of certain indicators (for Merit and RA 10612 scholarships only).
- A regular 2nd-year college student.
- You must have a GWA of at least 83%
- A resident of the municipality as proven by the barangay for at least four (4) years (for RA 7687 scholarship only).
- Of good moral character and in good health.
- Have taken the DOST-SEI Scholarship Examination before but did not pass or qualified for the scholarship but did not gain the scholarship award
